The grid moves in years. A modular data centre is built in months.

The energy problem

Compute is ready. The grid connection is not.

  1. Years-long connection queues

New capacity waits on transmission upgrades and utility approvals that move far slower than demand.

  2. Constrained sites

The locations with space and fibre are often the ones where the grid has no headroom left.

  3. Continuous load

Data centres draw power every hour of the year and cannot tolerate supply interruptions.

  4. Growth in steps

Capacity has to follow tenants and workloads, not utility build-out schedules.

Why onsite generation

Build the data centre where the power is.

A data centre of 1 to 20 MW can locate right next to a CNP power plant and run fully off-grid, independent of connection queues.

Redundant generation, backup capacity and controls are designed in from day one, so the site does not rely on the grid at all.

Plant modules in fabrication

Modular by design

Power that grows hall by hall.

Generation is added in factory-built blocks as halls and tenants come online, with switchgear and controls sized for the final capacity from the start.

The technology

High-efficiency power designed for critical loads.

For data centres, CNP is developing modular solid oxide fuel cell generation through specialist OEM technology partners. Fuel cells convert fuel to electricity electrochemically — no combustion — giving 60%+ electrical efficiency, low noise and low local emissions, in blocks arranged for N+X redundancy.

What is contracted

  • Capacity from 1 to 20 MW, added in blocks as the site grows
  • 99.999% availability at the point of supply, with guarantees
  • 60%+ electrical efficiency from fuel cell generation
  • Off-grid operation, with a grid connection optional for backup or export
  • Operations, maintenance and remote monitoring by CNP — no capital outlay

Commercial benefits

What onsite power changes for a data centre.

Time to power

Energise on the timeline of the build rather than the utility's connection queue.

Five-nines availability

Redundant generation and backup are engineered for up to 99.999% availability, backed by guarantees.

Off-grid by design

No dependence on a congested grid. The site's supply is its own.

Scales with demand

Add capacity in modular blocks as halls and tenants come online.

No capital outlay

CNP develops, finances, builds and operates the power campus. You contract for energy and availability.

FAQ

Questions from data centre developers.

Can the data centre run completely off-grid?

Yes. The power campus is designed to supply the site on its own, with redundant generation and backup capacity.

What availability can you provide?

Up to 99.999%, backed by availability guarantees in the energy agreement.

What sizes do you supply?

Data centres from 1 to 20 MW. Capacity is added in modular blocks as the site grows.

Do we need to own the generation?

No. CNP can finance, own and operate the power campus while you contract for energy and availability.

What generation technology do you use?

Modular solid oxide fuel cells, delivered with specialist OEM technology partners and arranged in N+X redundancy. See our Technology page for how it works.

How do we start?

Share your target site or region, the IT load and your timeline. We assess where a power campus can be located and how quickly it can be energised.
